Darwin based jewellery manufacturer Judy Yates launched her second collection of sterling silver, gold plate and 9K gold jewellery recently at the Australian Jewellery Fair in Brisbane. Her first collection, The Australiana Collection depicts the flora and fauna of the Territory.
The fair, held at the Brisbane Exhibition Centre attracts buyers from all over Australia and the Pacific.
Judy’s new collection, called The Majik Collection, is her interpretation of legends from a number of ancient civilisations. There are pieces from Egyptian lore, Mayan glyphs and representations of beings from some Australian Aboriginal legends.
“The year 2012 is fast approaching,” she explained, “and in the Mayan calendar this is when there will be “a leap of consciousness for all mankind” – not as some film-makers would have us believe, the end of the earth. I decided to create a collection depicting iconic scenes or beings from these mystical times.”
The collection has over twenty designs in it and is available on line and at Framed the Darwin Gallery in Stuart Park, NT,and at The Gannon House Gallery, Argyle Street, The Rocks, Sydney.
